Meet Kiska
Kiska is the name chosen for this lovely little female Amur Leopard cub. It is a Russian girl`s name meaning `Pure`. Gorgeous, isn`t she? (:o)

Playing peek a boo? What a sweetheart.
Rosalyn Sears: An absolute treasure. (:o)
oh dear. who told you Kiska means "pure" in Russian? Kiska is just a nickname for a cat, mostly female. "Kitty" would be the best equivalent in English, I guess. It doesn't mean anything else, Roz. Sorry.
The leopard's cub is a real cutie. Z
Rosalyn Sears: Oh dear! It was taken from the Marwell Zoo site, where they ran a `naming` competition. What a shame they got that wrong. (:o)
What a great shot. Her eyes are stunning!
Rosalyn Sears: She is rather gorgeous. (:o)
After yesterday's story, Roz, you won the prize! Absolutely darling, regardless of what her name means!
Rosalyn Sears: Must admit, Ginnie. I was thrilled to get this photograph. (:o)
Nice to meet you, Kiska....what an extraordinary beauty you are, and Roz has portrayed you brilliantly!
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you, Ray. I was so pleased to get this photograph. (:o)
Wonderful great eyes
Rosalyn Sears: They are beautiful and intense. (:o)
Works really well in amongst the rocks, you wouldnt know it was a zoo.
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you, Nigel. I was delighted to be able to get a shot at all, let alone one in a suitable setting. (:o)
So where were the morons at the time, heh heh. This is a great shot with your inadequate equipment - get their address and send them this one
Enough about the morons. Excellent picture of a very scarce animal. I saw on your link yesterday about the different names and choosing Kiska and that it means pure. Now a real russian comes along and tells you this treasure's name is Kitty. A story behind a story - something for the papers?
Rosalyn Sears: Well I was happy to get the shot, Louis. (:o)
Great capture Roz. What a glance!
Rosalyn Sears: She`s certainly got character. (:o)
A beautiful creature. The size of those paws compared to the rest of her!
Ingrid
Rosalyn Sears: She is, isn`t she, Ingrid. I was totally beguilded by these animals. (:o)
Well Kitty is a nice name too
Rosalyn Sears: I agree, Bill - on both counts. (:o)
She is gorgeous... I've done a bit of research and although the russian translation may be "Kitty" for the name Kiska, the meaning behind the name is "pure"
Rosalyn Sears: Hi Liz. I did wonder is that might have been the origins of the word. I was thinking `new born`, `baby`, etc. Glad you like her, I was totally smitten with this kitten!(:o)
Wonderful ! Just wonderful !!
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you - so pleased you enjoyed this photograph. (:o)
awesome capture, good timing
Rosalyn Sears: Thanks, Chantal. I did not have a lot of choice, I just had to take the shot because he was moving all of the time. (:o)
Cute! There seems to be a bleached blob around its paws. What caused that?
Rosalyn Sears: Ah well, Martin, this is my first attempt at salvaging a photograph with photoshop. The whole photograph was covered in a criss-cross of blurred wire mesh. To be honest, I was not sure how to attempt it, but opted for `burning` the hazy wire until it could not be seen. I guess I missed a bit! Oops! (:o)
She is beautiful, though, isn`t she? I have another one of her which I really want to try to salvage. That one is a different kettle of fish, though, and I have no idea where to start. (I just have not got the hang of `layers` yet) So I`m going to throw it up on here, in all its hazy, grainy glory, and ask for suggestions...........or better still, a photoshop genius to volunteer! (:o)
Oh now that's almost unbearably sweet!!!
Rosalyn Sears: I agree, Ian - she looks as cute as a button there, but I bet she`s feisty! (:o)
I want one Roz
Adorable, well captured
Rosalyn Sears: lol! I know what you mean. Glad you like it. (:o)
What a cute little animal Rosalyn, but I wish you had taken a bit of the out of focus bit off the left.
Rosalyn Sears: Hi, brian. You know I tried several different ways of cleaning up this shot. On one of them, I applied a `render light` filter in `flashlight` form, and that removed a lot of the unfocused area around the outside, but made the leopard cub too harshly lit. I guess I could have worked a bit more on that, but I really just ran out of time. (:o)
You have captured more than a photo of a cub here. I love wildlife photography and study a lot of the pro's. I really think that if i may say, with a little crp in the right places this would sit right up there amongst them, and this is captive !!!!! Very good work. ( as you have picked critique for this photo, can i point out the light patch appearance at her paws and onto the rock as well, a little burning of this area would really make the photo pop).
Congrats
Rosalyn Sears: Ric, thank you so much for that very encouraging comment. I welcome advice and suggestions, and someone else has already pointed out that area. You and they are quite right! I actually spent ages `burning` a hazy criss-cross of wire mesh which covered the whole of this photograph. I guess I missed one important bit! Oops! (:o)
What a beauty she is! Look at the gorgeous blue eyes and those whiskers. I'm really enjoying "our" trip to the zoo, Roz!
Rosalyn Sears: Well I am pleased you are enjoying it, Alan. (:o)
superb capture Rozalyn a real gem of a photo, worthy of printing for sure
Rosalyn Sears: Aw thanks, tim. I am so pleased you like it. (:o)
She's beautiful.
Rosalyn Sears: She is - I was totally captivated. (:o)
This is brilliant Roz,wish it was mine.
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you, mick. I was so lucky to get this, and really thrilled because I find that these wonderful creatures have stolen my heart. (:O)
AWWWWWWWWW
