Two hundred!
Firstly, I am ashamed to say that I still have not replied to all the comments. I sat down tonight, full of good intention, and encountered a rare problem with Shutterchance - each time I tried to post a reply, I got a `page not available` notice. It is working again properly now, but it is 11.30 pm, and I shall soon turn into a pumpkin. Tomorrow, definitely tomorrow. (:o) And now for today`s shot - my 200th posting on this wonderful site. I just could not decide what to post, and settled on trying to find a recent photograph which I would probably never have thought of taking, prior to joining this site. For a start, this one has been converted to black and white, something I would never have had any interest in before. It is not a flower, or a fluffy bunny, or a swan at sunset - it is concrete and brick, and kind of abstract and quite sort of minimalist. I would not have had the confidence, 200 photographs ago, to post it. I`m posting it now, not because I think it is a brilliant photograph, but because I saw an opportunity, liked the idea, took the photograph.......and am glad I tried. (:o) I can only thank you for all the help and encouragement I have received through my fellow shutterchancers, and all the inspiration I have gained through viewing your wonderful work. I am loving my photography, delighting in new discoveries, and slowly adding to my extremely limited technical knowledge. Now.........I have a little button on my camera......it is a `diopter` .......what exactly is that!?! (:o)

Diopter:
http://www.earthboundlight.com/phototips/viewfinder-diopter-adjustment.html Trying: "Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep." - Scott Adams I would have taken this shot too, Roz.
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you for the link......I shall study further!
I love the comment about `trying`. I totally agree, but I think what I was trying to say that Shutterchance has given me the confidence to put up shots which I am not sure about, without feeling like a total idiot. (:o) Now your comment: `I would have taken this shot too`, really boosts my confidence! I`m also beginning to accept that it is OK to take a shot and simply enjoy it because I like it - it doesn`t have to have universal approval. I just think it all boils down to gaining confidence, and shutterchance has helped me immensely. I just wish my technical knowledge was growing at the same rate! lol! (:o)
Very many congratulations Roz. 200 worthy pictures, and this one's no exception.
I, for one, am glad you're here because your pictures have added a great deal to my enjoyment of the site even though I don't get to see them every day. No need to say what the dioptre is ... but if you twiddle it you'll notice the difference
Rosalyn Sears: Ellie, thank you so much for that really kind remark. I understand about not being able to look every day - I am struggling myself at the moment.
As for the `dioptre` - what hope is there for me if I can`t even spell it correctly! lol! I am ashamed to say, that I am struggling to see a difference, and struggling to even turn the tiny, fiddley little wheel. I may as well launch into another dumb question....does it make any difference to the photograph, or just adjust my own view through the view finder? Call me a photo-numptey, I don`t mind. (:o)
Many congratulations on reaching 200. Isn't it wonderful how the supportive SC community helps us to push our boundaries and try new things?
Rosalyn Sears: It has certainly helped me, and really whetted my appetite to learn and improve. (:o)
Yep. Not a flower, not a kitten, not a sunset, but still a splended clever-built photograph, Roz. What a strange concept for some
I'm a bit puzzled by the attention SC people pay to the round number of posted pictures. Is the quantity of posted photographs a criteria of something I don't know? May be a number of views, or a number of comments should be a reason for celebration too? Just asking.
Rosalyn Sears: and one which would not have occured to me before shutterchance. (:o) The 200 thing, was more a device for saying `thank you` than anything else. But then I guess you can say that any time. lol! (:o)
Félicitation pour ta 200 ème
Bonne journée de Bordeaux
Rosalyn Sears: Oh thank you so much! I appreciate that very kind comment. (:o)
#200 congratulation Rosalyn! I agree with Red Pen but I also DO agree with Viktor, I read your story with it and I felt the same 'what am I doing here' but we all like to improve ourselves and you did a very nice job Rosalyn, always enjoy your picures and the composition you did today is a smart one
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you, Astrid. I really appreciate your comments. (:o)
This is a nice strong image
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you, Chris. I really like it.....chewing gum and all. (:o)
Nice B&W, and congratulations on your 200th.
I also think SC is a terrific site for the supportive constructive feedback (good and bad) The negative comments always come with a why and how you could improve the shot. If we didn't get these we would quickly get bored and fail to strive to do better.
Rosalyn Sears: Thanks, Aussie. (:o) This is such an encouraging place.
In your text, Roz, you have spoken for many of us here on SC! Thank you, because we agree with you. You are definitely one of the reasons why SC is important to me; and I would miss you if you weren't here, day after day. So CONGRATULATIONS! Here's to the next 200.
A BTW to Viktor: I wondered the same thing after I joined this site. 100, 200, 300...always a celebration. On my other site, we just celebrate year anniversaries.
Rosalyn Sears: Aw Ginnie! I`m blushing! lol! But I do so appreciate you comment today, and all the encouragement I have received from you. (:o)
Very well done on your 200th
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you. Just a device to say `thank you` really. (:o)
Congrats on your double centenary! I share your views about SC entirely. It is such a good way to learn.
Rosalyn Sears: Thanks, Ian. It is fun here, isn`t it? I have looked at other sites, and some of them are positively vicious. I would never have thrived in that kind of environment....(:o)
Nice alignment of these white "ball" inside that black circle ... It's like a frontier of freedom !!!
Ann
Rosalyn Sears: Ann, I love your comments - always such a great imagination. (:o)
Many congratulations on reaching your 200th. BTW I think concrete can be a very grateful subject for photo's.
Rosalyn Sears: Thanks, Scarlet. I must admit, I was really happy with this one. Tomorrow`s shot is architectural.....again, not something I would have tried before shutterchance. (:o)
I have great empathy with your sentiments about Shutterchance, Rosalyn.
This picture is really good...beautifully presented, interesting subject matter, and lots of fine detail, even in the pavement.
Rosalyn Sears: It is a good place to be. (:o)
As for the photograph....lots of detail, right down to the chewing gum on the floor! I know that, when I get to grips with Photoshop, I would be able to clone that out......but my goodness, I would struggle to find the time. (:o)
Roz, on the diopter, if you are blind as a bat like me, it helps a bit with adjusting the viewfinder to your own vision. Mechanically it does not make a difference in your photograph. But let's face it, when you can see something more clearly and the viewfinder is calibrated to your eye, well you are more likely to produce a better photograph.
Now to your message, your welcome and I thank you for the same. We are a community. Communities do that for each other. Isn't that a wonderful thing? Now to measuring accomplishments. We each do that in our own way. For some the number of photographs posted represents growth, commitment, and trying new things. For others counting views or comments is important. And yet for others each time we connect with another person, an image stirs us in some way, or we learn something, it is a celebration. The joy for me is that there is room for any, all, and more here in this little community. And finally, your photograph is one of those that makes me think about how I often take for granted shapes and textures in my own city. Now when I am walking around in the city, your photograph will be stored in my memory as a reminder to look a little closer for things I might otherwise dismiss. It is not the type of photograph I would normally take either, but the shapes and the lines and textures are so interesting. Nicely done!
Rosalyn Sears: Kathryn - thank you so much for explaining the purpose of the dioptre. I shall experiment further. (:o)
I do so agree with your comments regarding `measuring accomplishments` - it is such a personal and individual yardstick. So personally, I love learning something new, suddenly seeing something in a different way and, as you so perfectly describe, conneting with another person, whether sharing delight in a photograph, or grappling with the same problems. I am so glad you like the photograph. My inspiration has come from photographs I have seen on here. Again, as you say, these photographs and ideas are stored in the mind as reference points. It is so exciting when you suddenly see something and think `ooh! that might work!`. (:o)
Many thanks on your 200th Rosalyn. I'm looking forward to the next 200.
Rosalyn Sears: Not sure I will quite be able to keep up the pace over Christmas, but I will still be around. (:o)
Congratulations on the 200 and you celebrate with a great comment and an excellent picture that goes to my likeys as well.
The recent abstracts and filter things you have done fits in with the 'knowing which ones to keep' Why celebrate on a 100 pictures. I can answer that if anyone can tell me why we celebrate every 365 and a quarter days. What is so special? In my school days we used to say that any reason is good for a celebration - even if it is to celebrate the first Tuesday of the week The other hand of the two handed observation. Have you noticed how many bloggers don't get beyond 10. How many bloggers fell by the wayside independent of the number of posts? You have reached a milestone, so celebrate it. According to your comments you are also celebrating a certain maturity level you have reached. Last year in august I have joined - certain bloggers received many a recommendation towards improvement then. Today I notice there are only ooh and awww and oh my on the sites of those bloggers. Some of them even went professional. Sharing is good.
Rosalyn Sears: Louis, thank you so much for your very kind and thoughtful comment.
I really was more trying to celebrate my enjoyment of Shutterchance, rather than the 200th photograph. But it seemed like a good time to say it. I am still in awe at the incredible standards of some of the photographs I see on here. I am very aware that I have a long, long way to go before I would even come close to those standards.....but I am enjoying the journey more and more with each small step I take. (:o)
Strong geometry and a very nice space filling curve. I like this sort of thing. And happy 200th!
Rosalyn Sears: Thanks, Martin. I was quite pleased with how it worked out, and it`s always nice to try something different. (:o)
A big congrats on your 200th.
It's great to experiment with your shots, you learn so much from making mistakes and I have made plenty. Learning something new most day's is fantastic and that's what I get from Scers, such as you. Thank you
Rosalyn Sears: Thanks, Tracy. I must admit, I have gained so much inspiration from looking at fellow shutterchancer`s photographs. It is a great place to be......if a little time consuming! lol! (:o)
congrats on the 200th well done
Rosalyn Sears: Thanks, mick. I`ve really enjoyed it. (:o)
Congratulations Roz...Well done. It is a very inspiring site and we can learn from constructive critism. Really great shot - an inspiration.
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you, Gale. It really is a good site, and a fun place to be. (:o)
Congrats on the double century. I agree with all you say about this site. It is also one of the beauties of digital that we can take loads of things without worrying about the cost of the film! This is a smashing shot. Great curves and range of tone. Well done Ros.
Rosalyn Sears: Thanks, Bill. So pleased you like the shot.....even with the horrid chewing gum spoiling the black curve. However, the shot was just an experiment, and life is too short to be spending time cleaning it up. (:o)
I can only echo the thoughts of others in congratulating you on reaching 200 images, quite a difficult thing to do I would say. The image is good as well, abstract in a way, Black and White, with a curve to hold it all in, well seen Rosalyn, look forward to seeing another 200 images.
Rosalyn Sears: Actually, Les, I have found it a real pleasure. I usually sit down for half an hour before I go to bed, and decide on a photograph - I find it really relaxing to have that little bit of `me` time at the end of what is usually a pretty hectic day. Glad you like the photograph. (:o)
Happy 200. Fab B an W abstract with great geometric lines. All the best, Dave.
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you, Dave. I`m pleased you like this one. (:o)
Congrats on the 200 up Roz, and a super shot to celebrate with. It says more about the photographer than a thousand swans at sunset would. It also says Roz is a damn good photographer ;o)
I see telemachus has given some help on the diopter - if you are still unsure let me nkow ;o)
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you! That is such a kind comment. I hope what it says about me is that I`m broadending my horizons a bit - and that is due solely to the encouragement I have received on here. (:o)
happy 200 Roz! and with a beautifully composed, graphical image. top shot Roz. mal
Rosalyn Sears: Thank you, Mal. Bit daring for me, eh! lol! Thank you also, for all you words of encouragement. (:o)
A very nice and great composition. B&W very good, too. Well done!
And .... Many congratulations Rosalyn by these first 200! Doubt does not fit that many of which we began in SC we have evolved of one or another way. All we are learning of all. Thanks!
Rosalyn Sears: Happy to know you like it, Jose. I agree, we are all learning, but some of us have more to learn than others. (:o)
J'adore vraiment aussi, top
Rosalyn Sears: Merci bien! (:o)
Very well-balanced composition. A great B/W shot.
